End of Day 6
The Saturday unit of 9 men (John Parfitt, David Bird, Robert Sheppard, John Skinner, John Bachelor, Charlie Jones, Mark Walker, Richard Whittington and Robert Humphreys) were on site for 3 hours 9.30 am to 12.30 pm and made a huge dent in Clubmen work needed to be finished before Monday morning.
David's electric sheep fence was put up round the square (sleep easily now, Paul!) ready for connection to the mains in time for expected arrival of sheep Thursday morning.
John Bachelor was on David's tractor pulling his harrow and did all the new land, and over the earth areas where the hedges were grubbed out. The new grass is now ready for topping, Robert Sheppard to do Monday with the tractor.
The rest were on raking, collecting and digging out stones and roots from the earth areas and really made progress breaking the back of this last of the Clubmen big jobs.
Day 7 is tomorrow
Tomorrow Sunday Simon Bachelor will be on site. Another working party is needed for 9.30 am to 12.30 am to finish the raking job.
People who have no yet been able to put their stint in so far would be welcome and needed for these 3 hours tomorrow.
It's vital that this last groundwork is all finished before the close Tuesday as it's forecast to turn wet on Wednesday. Conditions are currently ideal for what needs to be done tomorrow which is:
- Bring a rake (any kind of rake), a bucket, a spade and (if you have one) a wheelbarrow. Some rakes and other tools are in the changing rooms (home). There are barrows and builders' bags on site.
- Start 3-quarters down on the sea-view side and carry on round clockwise raking the soil, removing stones and roots, grading and refining.
- Stones onto the rubble piles at the bottom end where there is space. Wood and roots in builders' bags, dragged over to the bonfire.
A party of 6 starting at 9.30am would finish this whole task by 12.30 pm.
Will you be there? Email in to confirm arrival time.
Day 8 Monday
Fencers (led by Stuart) will be a unit of 4. John Parfitt has volunteered to work the whole day in that unit with The Third Man railing, freeing up Stuart and Alex to push on round with affixing the wire.
Can anyone else be on site Monday?
Sunday, Monday and Tuesday are the key, key days.
