Lyndon's Fantasy Comes True
Thirty-two players joined the Fantasy Cricket Competition which ran for the 18 weeks of league competition. All weekend games during that period were counted toward each weeks total.
Only one person (Mark Day) took advantage of the transfer opportunity.
Four monthly prizes were paid out along with the 1st and 2nd overall prizes. This left a total of £162 being paid into club funds
Sid took the May Prize, Wendy the June Prize and Mark picked up both July and the August Prize. Lyndon led from week 6 onwards, building up a sizeable lead from Mark in what was to become a two horse race.
Due to the inclement August weather scoring was all over the place and the names of the top two places came down to the very last day. Lyndon and Mark were locked together on 790 points. Everything depended on the Sunday Friendly skip John Skinner.
A single figure score by John and the scores would remain level, A duck as the week previous and Mark would win. John came good for Lyndon with 11 runs and a catch to see him pick up a competition winning 4 points.
On the individual scoring, top points scorer was newcomer Sam Gunarathne (unfortunately he joined the club too late
to be included in the Fantasy competition).
So:
- Top batsman was Ed Humphreys who pipped Chris Smith by three points.
- Top bowler was 15 year old Adam Grey who started the campaign as a 14 year old.
- Top points scoring all-rounder was Matt Hildrew who finished a mere 2 points clear of Tom Isom
- Best wicket-keeper was Simon Bachelor, whilst his fellow keeper Dan Chapman had a nightmare, totalling a mere 1 point - yes 1 point
A fantastic finish to a very enjoyable bit of fun and a healthy contribution to to club funds
