Thursday

Saturday is that day

Then each sent into battle is face to face with his destiny and with History.

There is only him.

But why must it be him?

Because there's no-one else.

Just him.

But he is not alone.

Raising his eyes from the batting crease, he sees his partner at the other end.

He bats with Churchill, with Nelson, with Henry V, with Prendergast, with Ghandi, with Cromwell.

All are there batting with him.

And when he turns in to bowl, looking beside him, he is not alone.

They run in with him - Genghis Khan, Attila the Hun, Steve Atkins, Julius Caesar, Theodoric the Goth, Chris Strong.

And in the distance the slip cordon waits - Shakespeare, Elijah, Ian Bullock, Alexander the Great, Muhammed Ali, Beethoven.

They are all there with him.

He is Luke Skywalker.

It is his destiny.

For each, it is his time.
